PutquesOntario property tax rates

Sources and method

The data

All rates come from the Financial Information Return (FIR), Schedule 22, published by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing as open data on the FIR open-data page. We downloaded the files VIEWFIR2023-22, VIEWFIR2024-22 and VIEWFIR2025-22 on November 2, 2026.

  • 2024: the province's file lists 444 municipalities and shows 421 submitted (file updated October 27, 2026). 391 of them have a residential full-occupied rate and appear with 2024 figures. A further 18 had not filed for 2024 but have an earlier return in the file; their pages say so and show that year's rate (including the City of Hamilton). Rankings compare these with the 2024 rates of the rest.
  • 2025: 332 of 444 submitted when the file was updated October 30, 2026. Putques shows 2025 as a comparison column where a municipality has filed. The rankings use 2024 because it is the most complete year.
  • 2023: used for the rate history.

How we read it

  • Residential: the “RT, Full Occupied” row, total tax rate. Municipal, upper-tier and education parts are its LT/ST, UT and EDUC rates.
  • Other classes: the full-occupied row for each class (commercial CT, industrial IT, multi-residential MT, new multi-residential NT, farmland FT, managed forest TT, pipeline PT). If a class has more than one band, we use the band with the largest taxable assessment.
  • Rates are shown as a percentage of assessed value. Dollar figures multiply that rate by the value shown.
  • Rank is by 2024 residential total rate among the 409 municipalities. Single-tier and lower-tier rates already include any county or region part.
  • Names: the file lists names such as “Barrie C” or “Aurora T”. We drop the suffix and show the type (city, town, township, village, municipality).
  • Where the file leaves a value blank we show “n/a” or a dash. Nothing is estimated.

What is not in the rate

Special area rates (Schedule 22 lists them separately), local improvement charges, user fees, and any rebates or phase-in. The rates here are not a tax bill.
